The Oval Office and Safeonweb make Herstappe, the smallest municipality, the safest in Belgium

Brussels, 02/10/24 – The Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium (CCB) and the experience-driven communication agency The Oval Office have joined forces to make two-factor authentication (2FA) the standard in Belgium. The campaign kicks off in Herstappe, the smallest municipality in the country, aiming to encourage all Belgians to activate 2FA.

Herstappe as an inspiration for the whole country

And where better to start than in the smallest municipality in Belgium? The Safeonweb team visited the residents of Herstappe to help everyone activate 2FA (and to demonstrate how easy it is!). Thanks to the information sessions provided by the Safeonweb team, Herstappe is now the first municipality where two-factor authentication is the norm – the safest municipality. The 80 residents serve as ambassadors in the national campaign, sharing their stories through TV, online videos, and native content. The message is clear: neighbors, family, and friends help each other secure their accounts. The residents of Herstappe and the Safeonweb team are the faces of the campaign. Through this personal approach, the campaign aims to inspire a broad audience to implement 2FA themselves.

A strong partnership with a trusted team

This unique campaign stems from a longstanding collaboration between the CCB and The Oval Office. Thanks to mutual trust, they have created a bold, creative campaign that mobilizes people and strengthens the digital security of all Belgians.

Towards a safer digital future

Using strong passwords is important, but a password alone does not offer sufficient protection. The chances that one of your passwords is already visible on the internet are quite high. If a hacker or scammer obtains your password, they can use your mailbox, place orders in your name, post something on your Facebook, game on your account, and more.

Two-factor authentication is a simple yet powerful way to prevent hackers from accessing personal data. The tutorials and extra guidance on the website make it easy for every Belgian to activate 2FA and better protect their digital lives.

The launch of this campaign marks a significant milestone in the CCB's mission to make Belgium safer. By working together and helping each other install two-factor authentication (2FA), we can fight cybercrime as a nation. The smallest municipality, Herstappe, has taken the first step – now it's up to the rest of Belgium to follow suit.
